The following activities are available to East Lansing students during the summer of 2013.

Summer Activities



Grand Rapids Academic Summer Program (GRASP):

  • The GRASP prograrm is a nine-week correspondence summer program in math and reading for grades Kindergarten to 8th grade.  Children receive a packet of material containing all 9 lessons for the summer.  The lessons are scored, results recorded, and returned to the children. 

    Children successfully completing (70% accuracy) at least 7 lessons are awarded a certificate, and those successfully completing all 9 lessons receive a medal. 

    We also have an on-line form of GRASP for students in grades 4-8th only.  To enroll, go to www.grps./grasp to pay online or to sign up for on-line GRASP.  You can also fill out the enrollement form below and mail or fax it.  the fees for the summer $38 for one subject and $63 for both subjects for each cheld.  Each Child should be placed at the  greade just completed in school.  If there are extenuating circumstances, order the level that is appropriate for your chiled. 

    Materials will be mailed in June.

  • CSI: Youth Forensic Science Program
    June 23 - 29, 2013
    For students currently in grades 7, 8 or 9 and at least 12 years old. Registration deadline May 3, 2013
  • High Achievers
    Session I - June 17 - July 11, 2013; Session II - July 8, 2013 - August 1, 2013
    For students currently in grades 9 thru 12. Courses in biotechnology, microeconomics or philosophy. Commuter and residential options both available. Application deadline April 5, 2013
  • Explore Africa
    Not offered summer 2012
    For students entering grades 10, 11 or 12. Scheduled for summer of 2013
  • This travel program is designed to provide a three-week enrichment experience for high school students in contemporary Chinese language and culture. Students admitted into the program will spend four days living on the MSU campus taking intensive courses in Chinese language, history, and contemporary culture. At the end of the four days, students depart for a 14-day journey in China. They will travel to the cities of Beijing, Xi’an, Chengdu, and Shanghai, China. Applicants for this program should be open-minded, willing to accept new challenges, and have an interest in Chinese culture.

    During the residential portion of the program on the MSU campus, students will be located in the Snyder-Phillips/Mason-Abbot dormitory complex. This complex features newly renovated rooms and a state-of-the-art dining facility. Classes on campus and travel in China are led by faculty from MSU. PAN - Physics of Atomic Nuclei (For those currently in grades 9 - 11)
August 4-9, 2013
A free 1 week residential or commuter outreach program that gives students a taste of what research is like through work with teachers in the area of nuclear astrophysics. No minimum GPA or test requirements. Go to http://www.nscl.msu.edu/teachersstudents/programs/pan for more information.

Language Summer Camps for Kids at MSU (For students ages 7 - 12.)
One week sessions throughout the summer of 2013
The Community Language School at MSU is offering one week summer language camps for children in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hindi, Japanese, and Spanish. Students are introduced to different languages and cultures by providing a fun learning environment that focuses on games, songs, and other playful interactions. Morning-only options are available.

No previous knowledge is required and children of higher levels can be accommodated. All camps will take place on MSU's campus.

Sessions: All camps are 9 am - 4 pm unless otherwise noted. Morning-only options available for each camp.

Hebrew: Monday-Friday, June 17-21, 9 am - 12 pm (morning only)
French: Monday-Friday, June 17-21, 9 am - 4 pm (morning-only option available)
Arabic: Monday-Friday, June 24-28, 9 am - 12 pm (morning only)
German
: Monday-Friday, June 24-28, 9 am - 4 pm (

Chinese: Monday-Friday, July 22-26, 9 am - 4 pm (
