SNACKS
There is a lot of active learning in a kindergarten classroom. All that activity makes a person hungry! Therefore, we will be having a snack every AFTERNOON in our classroom this year. Donley School is a nut-free building. Please make sure you send in a healthy snack (NO PEANUTS OR TREE NUTS OF ANY KIND AND/OR ITEMS WITH PEANUT/NUT PRODUCTS IN THEM please—we have several children in our classroom with severe allergies to nuts) with your child in a marked bag/container. Here are some snack ideas:
o Fresh fruit: Bananas, apples, pre-peeled oranges, grapes, melon, berries.
o Cheese. Most cheese is nut-free, including kid-friendly string cheese and
cheese cubes.
o Go-gurts and drinkable yogurt; yogurt
o Vegetables: Baby carrots, cherry tomatoes, broccoli, celery and
cauliflower.
o Raisins and other dried fruits.
o Pudding and jello cups.
o Air-popped popcorn (not microwavable popcorn)
o Applesauce and other fruit cups.
o Fruit snacks.
o Juice and water.
o Homeade cookies (baked with butter or corn oil)
o Rice Krispie treats (homemade and purchased)
A more comprehensive list of snack items will follow—identifying approved crackers, bars, etc. Please try to choose snacks off of this list to ensure the safety of our students. Always send the snack in a separate labeled bag from their lunch bag. Don’t worry If you happen to forget one day. I will have a supply of extra snack items available for just such a situation.
